I know DOS is still quite widely used in embedded applications, but I'm quite surprised at some of the applications that Windows 3.1x has been used for. I remember running it on a 486 based system at my previous employers, and it was very fast but had to be the most unstable OS ever made, I could practically guarantee to crash it at least one a day.
