My personal view on this is that in the case of the EasyPIC5 board, we are more talking about an "Educational Board" then a "Development Board". That is, the EasyPIC5 board belongs into a class of products/boards that are more targeted at the classroom environment where you probably have a bunch of pre-prepared "lessons" to go thought. I do not think that one is playing in the same field as (just as an example) the ReadyBaord's from Olin. The EasyPIC5 (and similar "all-incuded" boards) are pretty worthless as soon as you leave the classroom and the "lessons" specificaly made for it. Same when you've come up with a circuit and you'd like to build a prototype, you don't want a full EasyPIC5 behind your aquarium feeding the fishes, right ? :-) An hobbyist can probably make more use out of a ordinary solderless breadboard, and the Pro who will build a prototype might find the ReadyBoards from Olin (or similar) interesting. Just my personal opinion, of course... Jan-Erik.
