Well I'm not impressed with Pic24 starter kit. Even after calibration
the touch pad sensors leave a lot to be desired in terms of
sensitivity. I'm not sure whose anatomy they used for the touch sensor
size, but I think I need to have hamster size fingers to use them
easily.

It will not recognise any of my USB flash drives, my 256MB is reported
as 'Connected to Hub' and that is all, my dodgy 8GB is just not
recognised.

To cap it all, without thinking I opened up MPLAB which promptly
erased the demo program.

Gives me a chance to look at the firmware I suppose and work out why
it doesn't like my flash drives before reprogramming the board.
