My prejuice on picaxe and similar devices (those with a = bootloader already inside occupying some program memory) is = that they are more oriented for hobbysts or for very = specific application niches. If you have to deliver a product that has time constraits or = code size constraints or that will use its usart for other = purposes, then you will have to do all by yourself. So it is your choice.
