The camera shop claims that the recessed lenses in these prevent some of the major causes of damaging cameras (setting them face-down on the lens), and they're a big improvement in speed over the older nikons (both turn-on time and push-to-take time.) They take nice pictures (you know, almost ALL of todays "good" (auto focus, auto- exposure) P&S cameras take pretty nice pictures compared to the "Instamatics" of my childhood. Even disposables take pretty nice pictures!) Personally, I don't like the absence of an optical viewfinder; with my aging eyes, I don't want to have to choose between seeing the screen and seeing the scene... There are a whole bunch of "prosumer" P&S cameras that include features like shutter or aperature priority exposure someone mentioned without going to the complexity of a full SLR. These have been coming down nicely in price, too. BillW -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
