To me it is copying the Mii channel from Nintendo's Wii. But Microsoft
apparently thinks different.

Nice view. ;-) Anyway, this idea may not be that new so Nintendo
may not have a patent on it so Microsoft is free to copy.
Maybe another Wiimote like gamepad is also been working
on somewhere in Microsoft's strong hardware division (IMHO
Microsoft's mouse are of better quality than Logitech's based
on our past experiences: two Logitech optical mice are dead
now but all three Microsoft mice still work fine after up to 6 years
of usage).
