Note that those simulators (which is in AVRstudio and VMlabs) are very nice looking but useless if you want to do other than single stepping and learn AVR assembler. Same problem as with oshonsoft simulation: slow plus there is no VHDL like or any other stimulus controlling like the one in MPSIM. GDB is a bit better in terms of the speed of the emulation, it works ok with DDD for example to have a graphical UI, however, I still could not find any way to attach a stimulus file to it - any hints? I did not know this Avrora and looks promising, will have a try. As I understood it is developed in Java? How fast and accurate the simulation is?
