You can probably become a billionaire on an IQ of 100, but > designing an orbital launcher takes a bit of rocket science. > I reckon that role is more an application of memory and project management. The real "rocket science" bits, working out how thick the walls will need to be within n% etc you farm out to a geek. Knowing the rule of thumb relationship between wall thickness vehicle acceleration and head will get you close enough without boatloads of calculus. The hard part is knowing enough about all the different systems that you can get the trade-offs into the right ballpark. A contrived example based on real world events. They had a problem with their aluminium nuts corroding in the salt air at their launch site. Replace the Al nuts with SS, problem solved. The vehicle designer then needs to see if he can claw back some of that mass by slimming down the tank walls with the reduced acceleration and tell the guidance people that the mass distribution of the craft has changed and they need to re-do their numbers. being "IQ smart" would help with that role, but being able to remember lots of stuff would probably help more ;-> > >> How do you determine what a person's IQ is? >> > > If you recognise the validity of the concept, and if you consdier that > assigning a figure is doable, then working out a test follows along behind > :-). > I tell people that I think I have an IQ about that of the current US > President.
