This has nothing to do with JDM but is due to yhe laptop design of using
not 15V RS232 levels but often just 5Volt levels.
Looks like blaiming the messenger and not the author of a message.

working with a USB <-> serial adapter vs a JDM style programmer that most of
the time does not work with laptop serial ports and USB<->Serial
