That's not what I implied. My argument is roughly that if the language 
does not enforce something, enforcing it by any other tool is shaky 
business, at best.

We (at least, most of us?) are comfortable with type checking, as done 
by a compiler. What is wrong with layout checking by the compiler?

(I know, there are two wrongs: you can't easily cut-n-paste, nor can you 
easily comment out using if0:)
