1. PICLIST: Tell me if you think this should be TECH or OT. AI learning algorithm may learn :-). Y'All: 2. I decided to use USB connected SATA drives in separately powered cases as a way of extending photos storage. Seemed an ideal way of increasing disl capacity flexibly. So far it's not. WIN XP Professional. USB2 serial cages, notionally Philips . SDES171BC/97 (identical in apprearance to other badge engineered barnds) . SATA drives The two USB SATA drives that I've connected so far: i) Do not appear on the system after reboot if left connected electrically. It is necessary to unplug the USB connection briefly and reconnect it for each drive to be recognised. Once reconnected the system 'finds" the drive withing about a minute of reconnection and then precedes to 'leaf' through all its files. Stopping the 'leafing' process (whatever it's doing) seems to have no adverse effect. The drive is then available for use. ii) When previously mapped for sharing across the local network, are now no longer mapped as accessible drives. Each drive must be (manually) reidentified as shareable and have permissions set. It then goes off on another leafing through session (setting folder permissions it says) and after that is good to go. SO: After reboot each drive must have its USB connection unplugged and replugges and sharing permissions must be reset. Question: What am I doing wrong? Is there any way to have this happen automatically as it does with eg a direct SATA connected SATA drive?
