Last weekend my brother and I stopped by the Lowell observatory in Flagstaff. One of the exhibits was a light pollution filters which was effective against narrow-band light sources (low pressure sodium, IIRC). Search for "light pollution filter" on Google. But the first thing that came to mind, was a setup with two prisms and a piece of cardboard with a cutout for a filter. May not be as good at getting your point across, though.
