You could also look at FED C for 16 and 18F series www.fored.co.uk just switch the rapid development environment off and you have a straight C compiler.US$100.00 pro version. Or, If you only need to play with 16F parts, then I can highly recommend the XCSB compiler - it is structured basic but is very 'c' like ; just doesn't have anything similar to structs, produces very tight code, not sure of the price at the moment - www.xcsb.com or www.xcprod.com.
