Harry, this is very good advice! By doing what Nicola says, you will not only avoid forgetting to correctly initialize a peripheral, but you learn about each of the peripherals as well. The reason for this approach, is that otherwise you don't really know the state of your device. Troubleshooting based on an unknown device state is hard work! I've been there...
