You got lucky. I's say you (Rolf) did something that Olin did not like, and Olin expressed that. You comment a lot on the lack of 'niceness' in Olin's reply, but how about the basic message: he was disappointed that someone spoiled the challenge before the intended audience had enough time to work out the answer for themselves. Like spoiling a joke by jelling the punch line too early.
