Yap, it's a good one. Despite other's ideeas (which are in general
correct, lower switching frequency means high L and C) even the LM723
(yes, the one manufactured for the first time when I was a young boy)
cand be used with success in volume production (as it already was) for
switching application. The efficiency is a matter of design, not only
of datasheet characteristics.
