I supposed it is something related to italian.

In italian, "boring" means "noioso" and the verb is "annoiare". Then you 
can see the similarity with "annoying", which OTOH means "seccare", 
"stufare", "fastidioso".

Hence the "false friend" thing. Such as "factory" -> "fabbrica", but in 
italian "fattoria" is the "farm".

Since "annoying" would've been, IMO, a strong word to tell you, I 
guessed that Nicola simply used the wrong word due to the above.
