William, If the response is like "because we say" then they should be able to refer to the reference in the spec that requires it. In the tests we get done, every test is cross referenced to the relevant spec paragraph(s) so we can double check the requirement & limits etc. If they can't or won't do this then I'd look at moving somewhere else.
