Just a few questions:

1) I need a 40-pin chip, so how do I choose which one? Should I go for a 
16F or an 18F? Is the 16F877 much use?

2) I need a in-circuit debugger. Is there any debugger out there which 
will allow me to use my laptop to actually single-step through the 
microcontroller's instructions and to check the values in memory along 
the way? If so please give me its name!
