He could have put a higher starting biding price, however, he obviously
wanted to avoid paying percentage to eBay. That's the nastiest thing on
eBay, you have to calculate a lot to see the real price, so you have many
similar items / sellers and you have to be very careful abut the mean
pricing, comparing them etc...

It may worth to write a small app that do this calculation automatically -
maybe a Firefox extiention, Greasmonkey script for example?
