I've mostly been keeping myself out of these "exchanges", but from time to time I feel I do need to add something. Frankly Olin, I am very disturbed by one facet of your apparent attitude: you often blame the victim. It's like a person driving on the highway, cutting someone off, which causes a multi car pileup, and then claiming "well I didn't do anything THAT bad, they shouldn't have been driving that fast anyways". The fact of the matter is (and I don't believe even YOU can deny this): your posts in the past have sometimes lead to a "ruckus" on this list. As admins, this is what we aim to avoid, as much as is possible. Despite this, you pretty much NEVER see any blame on your side, and instead either blame the victim of your assaults (it was a stupid question, they are too sensitive, they should grow up, do you realize how disturbing such an attitude is?), or now you blame James for "mishandling" the response to your assault (this one floors me, since invariably James or I or any of the other admins have usually only stepped in when the ruckus was already on it's way to becoming a riot). Is there ANY chance that you can see, that whether or not you or I or James or another admin believe your posts are wrong: they DO inflame, they DO cause a ruckus, they HAVE caused valuable contributors to leave, and that, at least in a small part, YOU share some responsibility for that? Are you capable of seeing that Olin? If not then I don't see why ANYTHING should change. The list has been running GREAT these past few months. Our work was almost zero at times. And with that said, unless there is something someone feels is really important to add (if so please keep your response short), please continue this discussion offlist, it has consumed enough of the lists resources and I don't believe anyone can be convinced it will go anywhere useful from here.
