Just on the offchance anyone's interested.

The latest I have on this is that the audio DAC appears to have all
the signals going into it correctly (clocks, data  control) but
nothing coming out. The clocks have to be quite accurately related or
the chip auto-mutes but since they are generated from the same source
and appear to be OK (to 6 decimal places) I think it's unlikely to be
a problem.

So I'm trying to source a replacement WM8728 chip. Mouser have them
listed at $US2.50 but estimate that courier charges to NZ will be
$US40 !. And they'd be on backorder.

Local parts suppliers don't seem to have it listed but I've still got
a couple to try.

I've located another player of the same type for sale cheap locally -
but it appears to have the same problem. (If I can source the chips it
might be a fixer-up-er).

I've purchased a different type  of DVD (dead) on the remote chance it
uses the same chip but have yet to collect. Only cost $1 and includes
a remote so should be useful for parts  anyway. (Or may be fixable).

Any other ideas?
