My brand new Vodafone USB 3G modem has just arrived. Reading the importantly named "HUAWEI E220HSDPA USB Modem Safety Information" I am informed - I must never use it near lit tobacco products. Passive smoking effect, or perhaps misusing a modem after breathing in the fumes of someone's spliff? I must not scratch or paint the cover. I must operate the device a minimum of 1.5 cm from the body. Damn! That means I can't velcro it to my head for convenience. You'd think they'd provide a measuring template, and how many inches is that? I mustn't use the device if I'm forbidden by law from doing so. I mustn't use it near someone who has a hearing aid - If they pick up my internet, I want them to pay for it! I mustn't use it near my PC if it has a wireless in it. Apparently and I quote ' it is rare, but your PC can generate sparks' making it an explosive area. - OK, I'll just keep the modem in it's box and not use it near a computer then. I mustn't use it if I'm blasting in my backyard - that's my enjoyment at 3 am gone. I mustn't use it near people who have a pacemaker. I wonder about a heart pump? I mustn't allow children to play with my wireless device, apparently it could hurt them or others. Brilliant I can lob it and hit someone, but children can not have that particular enjoyment. I mustn't use it whilst driving - is it OK if I'm in the car and someone else is driving? Do these new fangled GPS' in cars also come with a warning not to use them whilst driving I wonder? Before I clean the device (you're meant to keep them clean?), I muyst switch off all electrical devices and close my applications. Notice it doesn't specifically say I can't use it in the restaurant area of a petrol station (or a petrol station at all), nor does it say I mustn't annoy people in the doctors surgery, by downloading the latest dodgy movie and playing it at full volume - think I've found a loophole or two here!
