Either one. They call it "I/O Line Passing" when you set the pin externally, and it's described in section 2.2.6 of my copy of the XBee datasheet (2006.10.13). And you can set it up to echo an A/D input, so with proper filtering it will mirror the voltage on the local node to the remote node without any external microcontroller or custom code. -- Timothy J.
