I guess that towing > is just much easier in the UK ;-) Such "disparity" is common. A good case is my brother has a Mazda 3 Sport (Mazda 3 Combi to Europeans). The car is identical to what's available in Europe (his year was made exclusively in Japan), yet here they claim you can't tow with it at all, while in Europe it has a typical rating (not sure on the number, I think 1500lbs).
