I think it was a Pretec modem : http://www.clove.co.uk/viewProduct.aspx?category=03ECAC9A-0A48-42E4-863B-9401FAB4234E&product=777D1161-DA3D-4B6F-BE3B-95E1B8D70694 The SDIO part had a female edge connector type arrangement, and just needed a suitably shaped PCB to lock into it. The Pretec GPS unit looks like it uses the same SDIO card part.
