I have been looking for a portable solution for web access and email while away from home and also want to be able to run MPLAB and my ICD2. Along with various other Windows software that I have, I want to a system that runs XP. Many older programs and hardware won't work with Vista and I just don't want it. But... looking at the usual suspects (Dell, HP, Acer, etc) there are numerous products starting at $450US which would be fine for my purposes except they come with Vista. For example, selecting XP at the Dell site narrows the choices down to 3 systems, the least expensive of which is an Inspiron 1520 at $650. From what I have seen on forums, the EEE PC just comes up shy on ease of use with the small screen. And they're up around $400 anyway. So... any suggestions on a low-end XP laptop or notebook?
