I've got a lot of stuff going on right now, and I'm noticing I probably spent more time on the forum than I should have in the past. Yes I know from personal experience how arbitrary the ratings are. I could ignore them easily enough, but that doesn't solve the problem. How do you get everyone else to ignore it, when your score is posted by your name on every post in a official-looking way? The point is it's not what I think, it's what everyone else thinks, so my ignoring it doesn't fix anything. To the vast majority of people, this looks like Microchip putting a numeric value on every member. To these people, it's not obvious how arbitrary and easily abused the system is. Even though my rating seems to be the highest of anyone there this week, I know how silly that is. Clearly someone is deliberately manipulating my rating, just as was happening when it was being held aritificially negative for a while. I'd be happy to come back when Microchip stops proclaiming I have a specific "value" that is based on undefined criteria and at the whim of anyone with a free hour and a internet connection. Just removing the poster's "score" from every post would probably be sufficient. Abolishing the system would be better. Even any response from Microchip acknowledging that some of us have issues with the rating system would go a long way. So far Microchip has been totally silent on the matter, which is what hurts more than being given a arbitrary rating. After all the time Dario, Ric, you, I and others have spent over there, we are still so irrelevant to Microchip to not even be worthy of a single response to the numerous direct questions and suggestions about the rating system. This make me feel like a chump for having spent time over there. Even a "We think it works just fine, it's not going to change, get over it." would be far better than silence. ******************************************************************** Embed Inc, Littleton Massachusetts, http://www.embedinc.com/products (978) 742-9014.
