You don't need to create a new component (what Eagle calls a device).  You
add a package (board foot print) to the current device.  Update the library
as noted earlier, then change to package type in the schematic editor using
"change > package".

Two documents that are well written are the tutorial and the manual.  They
will give you the info that you need.
