LED Journal April 2008. http://www.ledjournal.com/eNewsletters/2008/led_newsletter_04-08.htm#1 Portable lantern CFL replacer. Many interesting products described, but the one that most caught my eye (as it were) was the Seoul Semiconductor P7, 10 Watt 900 Lumen LED 'light bulb replacer' - 1st item in 'product news'. At 90 lumen/Watt that's above the current norm and the 900 lumen output is a tad below the 1000 or so lumen output expected from a standard 100 W incandescent bulb and well above a 60 W bulb's output. http://www.acriche.com/en/product/prd/zpowerLEDp7.asp 900 lumen is max (no surprise) 700 lumen typical. 400 lumen typical at half current (so slightly lower Vf) for > 90 l/W typical at 5 Watts. With many administrations going mad with plans for incandescent replacements this type of product is an ideal candidate. At 90 l/W it's efficiency is comfortably above the 70 or so l/W expected from better quality CFLs. They make the point that the radiation pattern and focusability allows an even greater improvement than this over CFLs on terms of end user light. Portable lantern CFL replacer: In battery powered lantern equipment LEDs look ready to replace CFLs especially so at reduced Wattage where efficiency > CFL levels applies at even typical ratings. Price will be an issue but longevity will help.
