So, maybe something like this works: #define LED LATE,#0 then do bclr LED Note that I think you should use LATE instead of PORTE to avoid read modify write issues. LATE is the internal output latch, so it reads THAT, modifies it, then writes it back to the latch. It does not care what the actual pin is doing (which using PORT does do).
