I have always found HyperTerminal to be a pain to configure. It seems to 
insist on expecting modem control signals, and is difficult to configure as 
a "glass teletype". For this reason I prefer to use the terminal.EXE that 
came with Windows 3.1 - it runs just fine under XP for doing this sort of 
connection, it is easily configurable, and doesn't assume anything that you 
cannot control.
