>Queenstown has a lot of activites, you don't have to hit the night clubs :) > http://www.queenstown-nz.co.nz/information/Activities/ >It is (for most tourists) the gateway to Milford sound. An excellent way to Milford Sound is to stay and Te Anau (said as Tea Ah-now) (another YHA) and take the post bus. He will collect you from the hostel, and take you back in the evening. He has several mini-busses he uses depending on how many people he has that day, and adjusts the mail delivery to be on the outward or return trip, depending on what the boating companies tell him about the weather conditions at the sound. Also tends to be cheaper than taking one of the tourist busses, and can also get you to the earlier boats if he thinks that is the way to go. He is also amenable to stopping off at various points for photos, and has pre-selected points such as at the tunnel mouth to Milford. The receptionist at the hostel will know who to call to make the booking with the Post van. While at Te Anau, take a boat trip across the lake, which drops you at the far end of the lake where you change to a bus, which takes you over to Doubtful Sound. This sound is the outfall from a power station which is inside the mountain you cross, On the way back the bus goes down into the generator hall inside the mountain. Those who have a paranoia of confined spaces are allowed off before going down the tunnel. At the Sound there is another boat trip which takes you down to the open sea. Plenty of sea lions and sometimes porpoises to see as well as the stunning scenery. You can only do this trip by starting with the boat trip. -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
