Microchip stores this relationship (sometimes!) in the device file of the chip. Not for every chip, but for example in the file 12F1220.dev I found this: devid (region=0x3ffffe-0x3fffff idmask=0xffe0 id=0x7e0) ver (id=0x7c0 desc="rev a") ver (id=0x7c1 desc="b0") ver (id=0x7c2 desc="b1") ver (id=0x7c3 desc="b2,b3") ver (id=0x7c4 desc="b4") Seems what you were missing.
