It's a strip of LEDs made from that orange, flexable circuit board 
material you see in computers to connect various components sometimes.

The one I bought has tri-color leds and runs on 12v.

As soon as I saw this I knew it would be perfect for my hd clock project.  
I had been debating how to mount the leds inside.

It's not expensive either... a 30 LED strip is $20, about 20 inches long.
