Andre, Slackware is (was?) a rather old Linux distribution. Since you're using Fedora, you don't need to concern yourself with it. If you don't like Wine so much, one option is VMware to run Windows inside an emulated system (it still manages to be quite fast). Alternatively, you could give the gputils suite of linux pic programs (assembler, linker, etc.) a try. For making things look good, you can try setting up beryl. It has more eye candy than is good for you. To make your system look like a mac, check out the different Window Manager and GTK themes that are available.
