I'm a bit confused - the Appliance Module *is* a relay (a latching one, so it comes up in the same state it was when power was removed). If you're just turning a mains powered device on and off, that's all you need. (Lighting modules are a different thing, being designed just for incandescent lights, and dimmable, I think they use triac switching). You can tell an Appliance Module has a relay, because of the loud "Clack" when it operates! :-) At least, that's how it is over here - I can't imagine it's different on US units.
