Gmail just put up the an ad for the following because >> of the content of this thread: >> >> http://www.englishbythehour.com/ >> "Loose your accent in just a few sessions!" >> What? me?, accent? couldn't be, I speak Queens English, I'll have you know. But it is interesting, being a Kiwi in the UK, especially living in Oxfordshire which has as 'minimum' an accent as anywhere in the UK. I still occasionally get asked where I am from, and respond with 'where do you think I am from'. Not too often is the first guess NZ, generally Australia, but occasionally (and worryingly happening more) South Africa, although I don't believe I have the guttural intonation of SA, or the nasal intonation of Australians. But it wasn't until I had been here for a couple of years and lost the 'tuning in' to the 'NZ accent' and then heard an item on TV from 'back home' that I realised why so many people do confuse Kiwis and Ozzies. -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
