Last year there was a thread about HD-based versus tape-based backup, and Gerhard described his system that relies on Acronis TrueImage with external hard drives. I am happy to report that for a while now, we've been using a setup consisting of: - A Linux server running Acronis TrueImage - Dell PoverVault RD1000 - Three 300Gb cartriges The main advantages of this system include: - Far greater capacity than tapes - Super-easy backup and restore - The ability to go back in small increments (hours versus days) I am also running TrueImage on my home system (WinXP with external drives), and on my work machine (with a removable drive -- bought a drive caddy for $16). After a recent crash, I like the idea of being able to do a bare-metal restore in minutes, from fresh (hours old, worst case) backups. TrueImage is really a "set it and forget it" kind of software, and the license only cost $40. Just thought I'd share, and say 'thank you' to Gerhard!. :-) Vitaliy -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
