I am in a project at my company in which we have reached an impasse with finding contacts for our project. The device is a hand held instrument with integral battery (IE rechargeable). It is a SEALED unit and the battery is NOT user removable or replaceable (this is a requirement to meet government regulations so it's immutable). This means the device requires case contacts AND also require contacts for charging the unit. It will be operated in a dirty and dusty environment therefore the contacts need to somehow be self cleaning etc. The 'vision' that's been tossed about is to chuck the instrument into a unit with spring contacts that wipe (and therefore self clean). Contacts need to be gold for low contact pressure and have to have approximately 2.5mm to 5mm of travel (the more the better because the contacts are recessed again government regulated ) for the charging unit. I've seen similar contacts used on wireless mice etc. However there travel is quite limited. Anyone have a clue? We have a clue as to what we want we just don't want to become experts at making contacts (we already have more work than we can get done in time as it is) and have someone make 'our' design. It would be nice if some one had expertise in this field so we can get the contacts made or off the shelf (preferably the latter).
