But what happens when the OS goes nuts, and tells the RAID controller to write crap all over your data? Don't you just end up with a redundantly imaged disk full of crap? For myself, I copy data from the working machine to a server, and then to an offsite backup server. I'm also partial to putting critical things onto thumb drives which can be easily unplugged.
