I need to do several prototype PCBs for high power LEDs on something like
Bergquist Thermalclad board.  I work with an engraving company that does
very high precision work.  They have the capability to engrave the circuit
board traces without going through the dielectric then they can do my
mounting holes and cut all the way through the aluminum substrate.

I would get better results and spend less money if I could etch the copper
layer instead of having them cut the traces.  Does anyone know if it is
possible to etch this material without hurting the aluminum substrate and
what chemical would be best to use for etching?

I have been unable to find a PCB house that does prototypes and small volume
production for a reasonable price.  Bergquist will only do a full 18" X 24"
panel for over $2,000, but I can buy blank panels for under $50 each.  From
what they tell me, the PCB houses do not do their materials in house, they
buy them finished and als have to buy full panels.  Any other suggestions
for getting these boards in small quantities ag good prices is welcome.
