If they are I suspect it is breaking the ISR serial receive code i've been using.  If that is the case then I need to find a way to configure them to stop generating an interrupt.  From the datasheet it looks like it may be possible to change a config register to handle this.  I just wanted to see if anyone else has run into this problem before.  If so perhaps adding some inline assembly to set the config register to disable the interrupt on the timer is all that is needed.

I'm going to go aver the datasheet again and am going to try and see if I missed anything that may help.
