Try as you might a VHS tape just plain won't fit into a DVD player... and if you do succeed I have a feeling that it won't play very well :). All Blu-Ray players that I know of also play DVD. I suspect that as DVD players break, many people will begin to purchase Blu-Ray replacements. True, the cost is high today, but it will come down. Playstation 3's are already down to $300 or so, and you get pretty decent gaming hardware as a bonus.
