No need for Javascript for that.

Nor that.

I think it's just "oh, that tool is new, lets use it".

As is so often on the web, technology is often used for the sake of
technology, NOT usability.

There are some sites now that are just flash, no HTML at all. They sure
are pretty, and pretty useless IMHO.
