Oh no, it's definitely possible, I've done it several times. I think Sony designed the camcorder is for easy servicing. The camcorder accidentally got submersed in water, and after it dried I found that everything works, but the lens is hollow inside, and it's got residue in the middle. Repeated cleanings involving distilled water and heating/cooling would not get rid of the residue. I guess I'll just keep it until I transfer all the tapes to HD, and buy a new camera.
