Martin,

I have been running v8.01 on XP and Vista, and the debugger seems pretty fast.
Try upgrading from v8.00 to v8.01, if you haven't already:

You may want to minimize how many variables and the amount of memory that is
displayed in your watch windows during the debugging session to improve the
debugging speed.
