Bill, As far as discovering things I found that windows takes about 3 minutes to boot completely using quad xeon processor 4 gig ram and mac takes 20 seconds and every things ready to use. I noticed more software installed longer takes to boot "windows" but mac has no effect at all. I suspect that you would discover in short order why windows is so popular with HW vendors; there's a hell of a lot it does "invisibly" to support a huge range of third-party stuff that macos would probably just choke on.
