I had my place of employment get a license for our use. There was nothing else in the price range that compares with it, IMO. The open-source solutions are interesting, but not there yet. Maybe in a few years. Once you spend a few days with it you learn the obscurities. There aren't many gripes that I can think of at the moment. The labeling of nets to connect across sheets is a bit of a kludge, and I wish the net (wire) drawing tool was smarter, but neither of those are things to make me dislike the program in general. We didn't buy the autorouter, and I don't miss it. Half of what I do is analog anyway. I'd say for relatively small boards, Eagle is a good buy.
