Since I'm just getting started in Linux, switching or trying different distros is not an issue, but seems like the dominant free one (wouldn't mind spending say $50 or so) is Ubuntu, (I like the feel of Kubuntu) and support seems very active, but it's not very user friendly when things go wrong. Almost all fixes are command line, within it self doesn't bother me if there was a good manual, but it seems at this stage, I do a lot of Googling with error lines for solutions. And then I usually have problems with the device designator, and mounts. Many times the instructions to use the live CD, but then apparently the various distros and versions differ and have problems getting to the right directory. Sorry I'm getting off my own subject. ~) What I discovered was, the Realtek RTL8139 Linux driver is claimed by Linux group, and has the issue. Looking at Realtek's site, it appears they are active in keeping some drivers current with recent versions, but the Linux hasn't had action in several years. Realtek refers to the Linux community for the Linux driver. Maybe a nudge to Realtek, and they would fix the driver, but at the moment are thinking it's OK. I have 3 different cards with 8139 driver, including one Belkin.
